The Tourism Advisory Council has developed the business case for all parties to increase the investment in tourism. This plan details the economic impact of tourism, the number of jobs attributed to the industry and the return in tax dollars to government. The plan calls on the Province of PEI to invest an additional $6 million in tourism marketing and product development project dollars annually.

This tourism strategy was developed by the Tourism Advisory Council in 2005. The strategy clearly emphasizes the importance of developing and enhancing the tourism product in PEI. Since the creation of the strategy a new research platform has been developed, which led to a new vision for tourism growth. This strategy is a living and breathing document, it is being reviewed and discussed by the Tourism Advisory Council members on a frequent basis. The Strategy is evolving through the Annual Tourism Planning process. Please see the 2008 Tourism Plan below for the most up-to-date information.

For the second year in a row, The Tourism Advisory Council and Tourism PEI were able to bring the Tourism Plan for the coming year to industry at the fall TIAPEI Conference. On November 27th, the overall strategic directions and priorities were shared with an emphasis on the year of culinary tourism development.

The earliest annual plan release to date, the Tourism Advisory Council and Tourism PEI presented the Tourism Plan 2009 at the Fall Tourism Industry Association of PEI AGM on Friday, November 28th, 2008. The presentation highlights new strategic research, marketing and product development initiatives for the coming season.

The New Product Culture: Executing the Vision, was the theme of the 2008 Tourism Plan launched at the TIAPEI Conference on March 5th, 2008. The plan details the past season's performance and spells out the research, product development and marketing agenda for the coming season. The Tourism Advisory Council unveiled their annual tourism plan to industry stakeholders at the November TIAPEI Tourism Conference. This plan details tourism performance results from 2006, highlights changing consumer trends and external factors impacting tourism, explains the new research platform for PEI and the new Vision for growth. The priorities for the second year of implementing the Five-Year Tourism Strategy are also outlined in this document.
